A welding instructor, also called a welding trainer, will implement lessons for students who want to become welders. The main responsibilities of a welding instructor are to teach the craft to students by demonstrating skills and techniques with tools, such as arc welders, welding shields, automated cutting torches and computerized welding software. Welding instructors monitor students while they practice to ensure proper technique and safety procedures.

Welding instructors most commonly work in post-secondary programs such as vocational colleges, though they may also work in vocational-technical high schools, adult job training and re-entry programs, and private, for-profit trade schools. Degree in welding technology a plus. Work experience as a welder and teaching skills appropriate for the level of students being taught is highly preferred.
