Responsible for directing, coordinating, and executing design projects resulting in the development and improvement of new or existing drilling tools/or technology.
Develop new products and/or improve existing products in accordance with EOG requirements, industry accepted standards for material selection, structural analysis, and validation/verification from initial concept study to final product qualification testing and support
Perform validation and verification of vendor designs and equipment in accordance with EOG standards and engineering best practices
Identify and communicate modifications/changes required prior to use by EOG
Assess vendor inventory, inventory management, quality control measures and procedures
Prepare and communicate EOG criteria for
Inventory quality and usable component life
Inventory service, machine work, PTA and/or weld work, and inspections
Build and teardown procedure, measurements, and data capture
Prepare stress analysis, and critical assembly instructions as needed
Analyze design reliability, serviceability and manufacturability as needed
Provide support to policies and establish procedures that affect operations
Perform engineering duties at vendor sties, or different division headquarters when required
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
9+ years mechanical engineering design experience
4+ years of mechanical engineering design experience in the development of downhole drilling tools with emphasis on downhole drilling motors
Good technical knowledge of drilling dynamics and the interaction of the various components with the drilling system
Advance knowledge of the implied physics and mechanical principles of the drilling process in the downhole environment
Demonstrated expertise in CFD and or FEA Analysis using Ansys, Abaqus or other equivalent software and analysis using drilling simulation software
Proficient with SolidWorks and assembly modeling for design layout
Position will be filled at a level commensurate with experience.
