Details:

Activity STEM Instructor (Theatre-Drama Instructor) (ACDP)teaches and facilitates in sharing technical knowledge and skills to help inspire STEM through arts, Drama and Theater.  Highly motivated, energetic and dedicated instructor to introduce to all Aspects of theater and drama field. Theater/Drama instructor develop and implement student-centered, interactive classes that culminate in student presentations. The ideal candidate is familiar with improvisational techniques and exercises. The instructor will be able to utilize progressive discussion instruction models to teach content areas using creative and innovative methods. Instructor will incorporate curriculum, and document and assess student progress throughout the class. The ability to create a safe and rich learning environment is essential. Classes will focus on developing mastery of public speaking, presentation skills, and critical thinking through the elements of improvisation, character development, and performing arts. This is a part time role that pays $17-20/Hr.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lesson plans, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for activities.
  • Teach high quality skills and techniques in theater to Middle and Elementary School Students
  • Able to teach and lead script writing, play directing, etc.
  • Collaborate with dance teacher to direct a full productions
  • Use SEL and leadership techniques to create a positive group dynamic
  • Collaborate with school teachers or CBO directors to successfully provide high quality programming
  • Participate in staff trainings and meetings
  • Follow the arts curriculum given by supervisors
  • Classroom management and group building
  •  Reporting any and all incidents/ injuries and maintaining log
  • Assist with all aspects of programming (i.e. following organizations mission; supervising all youth, working collectively and communicating with all staff)
  • Take initiative to guide program participants through your curriculum and manage group leaders as seen fit
  • Maintain program supplies and proper use of all
  • Help enforce all rules and regulations and codes of conduct
  • Attend all required department/ agency meetings and/ or trainings
  • Must complete 12 hours of trainings as per school- age child care requirements within the first three months of hire
  • Must attend mandatory agency-wide Professional Development trainings 
  • Administrative duties that may include follow up calls/emails to parents
  • Other duties as assigned
  •  Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project
  • Provide support during academic/homework hour
  • Promotes positive character development in all youth
  • Set teaching goals for students.
  • Provide a fun, encouraging, and disciplined atmosphere.
  • Be able to control and motivate groups of pupils.
  • Track student attendance, including late arrival and early departure to address any concerns.
  • Have an understanding of health and safety.
  • Follow administrative and governmental safety and personnel policies, procedures, and ordinances.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be fully vaccinated against covid-19
  • B.A. in Performing Arts, Education, English, Drama, or related field 
  • Experience writing lessons and use of drama/theater curriculum
  • Minimum 2 years working school-aged students teaching drama/theatre techniques and concepts.
  • Experience in cooperative learning groups and inquiry-based learning techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal and classroom management skills
  • Willingness to promote educational and youth development philosophy
  • Ability to work collaboratively with ACDP  staff
  • Ability and willingness to commit to the entire seasonal/summer program
  • Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
  • Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activity highly preferred.
  • Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred as well.
  • Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to fingerprinting, employment history, and criminal background check
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Experience in teaching or tutoring students is preferred Excellent communication skills (oral and written) preferred. Public speaking experience is a plus. Experience with after-school and recreation programs preferred 
  • Responsible, and amazing is preferred! A person of integrity and responsibility.
  • A profound understanding of STEM Field.
  • Teach high quality skills and techniques to Elementary or Middle School Students
  • Able to teach and lead in lesson planning, directing, etc.
  • Collaborate with education Specialist, Director or teachers to direct production
