Details:

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Peer Support Specialist will Serves as a role model for client/tenants and educates them on self-help techniques and self-help group process; teaches them effective coping strategies, sometimes based on personal experience; assists them in clarifying their goals for rehabilitation and recovery; and helps them to develop community, family and peer support systems.  The salary is $27,000/Year


KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:                                                                                                                      
  • Responsible for individual caseload of single adult client/tenants.
  • Assists client/tenants in the development and application of personalized coping skills by helping them identify and practice individualized skills to deal with their psychiatric symptoms.
  • Assists client/tenants in identifying their own individual warning signs of relapse and in identifying and developing specific, individual coping strategies.
  • Assists client/tenants in developing a crisis plan and crisis management skills.
  • Helps client/tenants develop assertiveness and communications skills in order to facilitate their active participation in the treatment planning process.
  • Assists client/tenants in carrying out tasks defined in their treatment plans.
  • Assists client/tenants to define individualized rehabilitation goals.
  • Teaches client/tenants skills in daily living, learning, working, socializing, recreating, parenting, and/or other skills, which are relevant to the individual's rehabilitation goals.
  • Documents activities for each recipient in accordance with agency and funder guidelines and procedures
  • Provides crisis intervention and stabilization as needed. 
  • Accompany clients to appointments, when necessary.
  • Attends all relevant community/service provider meetings.
  • Working towards completing and maintaining Peer Specialist Certification
  • Complete office duties as needed/required
  • Complete wellness, health promotions activities
  • Other duties as required.
 
REQUIREMENTS:                                                                                                                                              
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree preferred
  • 1 - 2 years of experience working with individuals with a substance use disorder and/or mental health issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; computer proficiency; excellent writing and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with client/tenants of different races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment, as well as ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Bilingual - (Spanish/English), preferred.
