The Recreation Specialist plans and coordinates recreational and educational activities within the facility. Communicates with clients to reinforce positive behaviors and promote social interaction. The salary is $31,000/year
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan coordinate and execute activities for shelter residents
- Plan different workshops for residents
- Educational training
- Job training and placement
- Budget training
- Independent living training
- Outline monthly recreation schedules for residents to participate in
- Maintain current and accurate files on all activities and donations
- Clearly document participation in case records
- Send weekly reports to Program Director outlining set and potential activities
- Ensure all residents meet DHS requirements for recreational time
- Meet and collaborate with community organizations, potential corporate sponsors and other parties to request donations/funding for recreational services
- Oversee the purchase, planning, design and upkeep of recreational tools
- Confer with management to discuss and resolve participant complaints
- Complete and maintain time and attendance forms and inventory lists
- Evaluate recreation areas, facilities, and services to determine if they are producing desired results
- Know how to use computer programs
- Other duties in keeping with the scope and nature of the position
REQUIREMENTS:
- Associates Degree required
- One (1) year experience in homeless population or special need population
- Experience with community resources, ability to work with children and families in homeless shelter
- Excellent communication skills
- Comfortable working with people
- Excellent organizational skills
- Bilingual Spanish Preferred
