Detalles:

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Peer Support Specialist will Serves as a role model for client/tenants and educates them on self-help techniques and self-help group process; teaches them effective coping strategies, sometimes based on personal experience; assists them in clarifying their goals for rehabilitation and recovery; and helps them to develop community, family and peer support systems.
                      
KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Responsible for individual caseload of single adult client/tenants.
  • Assists client/tenants in the development and application of personalized coping skills by helping them identify and practice individualized skills to deal with their psychiatric symptoms.
  • Assists client/tenants in identifying their own individual warning signs of relapse and in identifying and developing specific, individual coping strategies.
  • Assists client/tenants in developing a crisis plan and crisis management skills.
  • Helps client/tenants develop assertiveness and communications skills in order to facilitate their active participation in the treatment planning process.
  • Assists client/tenants in carrying out tasks defined in their treatment plans.
  • Assists client/tenants to define individualized rehabilitation goals.
  • Teaches client/tenants skills in daily living, learning, working, socializing, recreating, parenting, and/or other skills, which are relevant to the individual's rehabilitation goals.
  • Documents activities for each recipient in accordance with agency and funder guidelines and procedures
  • Provides crisis intervention and stabilization as needed.
  • Accompany clients to appointments, when necessary.
  • Attends all relevant community/service provider meetings.
  • Working towards completing and maintaining Peer Specialist Certification
  • Complete office duties as needed/required
  • Complete wellness, health promotions activities
  • Other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
 
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree preferred
  • 1 – 2 years of experience working with individuals with a substance use disorder and/or mental health issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; computer proficiency; excellent writing and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with client/tenants of different races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment, as well as ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Bilingual - (Spanish/English), preferred.
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Almost always: Fingering (typing, keyboarding, etc…)
  • Frequently: Lifting, reaching, extended sitting
  • Seldom: Kneeling, Visual inspection, extended walking
  • Almost never: Extended standing
  • Sedentary work (equivalent to lifting approximately 10 pounds with occasional lifting and/or carrying of small objects. A minimal amount of walking or standing may be required)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
 
Routine supervision: Provided with instructions on job requirements, methods, priorities and deadlines with particular attention to unusual or difficult aspects or tasks. There are regular or systematic reviews of progress, quality and output.
