We are currently seeking a Parent Advocate to work with our Community Association of Progressive Dominicans (ACDP) division. The Parent Advocate is vital in assisting families with services they may not have access to and to be a support system to the parents and also to the SRT staff.
Responsibilities consist of but not limited to:
  • Increase the school’s awareness and knowledge of community- based mental health and social services
  • Support and engage parents/guardians of youth in program
  • Engage family as soon as possible
  • Communicate family concerns to staff and works to resolve issues
  • Ensure that family members understand provider and treatment language, and are fully informed in the treatment process
  • Participates in family/ youth related treatments team meetings with permission from the families
  • Prevent and respond to mental health-related crises
  • Attend all other relevant meetings as equal part of the treatment team
  • Provide workshops, support groups, and other activities for caregivers of youth while in care and as they transition back to the community
  • Provide linkages for caregivers to community services and support
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Bi- Lingual interpretation for parents and guardians
Education/ License:
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Psychology, social work, or human services) preferred
  • 2+ years previous relevant experience in a Mental or Behavioral Health environment required
  • Ability to use business acumen to exercise good judgment and decision-making
  • Ability to deal with sensitive issues with diplomacy and discretion
  • Must be able to multi task with strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to communicate both verbally and in written form
  • Commitment to cultural diversity and sensitivity
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor under pressure, and operate with a keen sense of urgency and commitment to quality
  • Ability to be culturally competent in working in immigrant communities and communities of color and experienced in working both with students and families
  • Bilingual is a plus
