THE ROLE 
We're seeking an expert leader for a company that is well funded and has substantial growth and expansion plans over the next decade. With complex land development and building experience, including oversight of remote off-grid type construction, this candidate will step into the pivotal role of President of Land Development.  In this role you will lead the charge on multi-phase land and property development projects throughout North America, reporting directly into senior leadership and the founder. You'll apply your technical knowledge, industry experience and innovative thinking to take the helm of our land development operations, shaping the future of our landscapes, communities and our company. 
Understanding the founder's vision, implementing and managing all aspects of the projects from their ground-up design and planning through to execution and completion is essential to the candidate's success.  The ideal candidate's progressive career experience allows them to see and translate the big picture objective from the Principal's perspective, yet get into the details in a hands-on approach to ensure no detail is overlooked. This candidate will lead, manage and mentor internal and external development professionals to deliver on inland residential and off-grid community projects, ensuring full ownership and oversight of strategy to drive all regulatory relationships and approvals. Your extensive experience with supporting visualization and KPIs allows metrics updates to flow effortlessly. 
The two main projects  will be developing a southwest ranch retreat in the USA and  a +150-acre private island located in Canada.  Beginning with a blank canvas and partnering with the Founder and leadership team, the candidate will lead the charge to transform these uninhabited, community-building projects. Previous experience and in-depth understanding of complex land development in remote locations is a must for this opportunity, as well as understanding the complexities of off-grid systems, permitting, logistics and relationships required to make it possible.  Future projects will include similar land development builds throughout Canada, the United States and the Caribbean.  The company's pace of work is fast with a highly experienced and driven executive team. Experienced - You have extensive experience building off-grid, onsite, prefabs with big and small budgets, but above all else an appreciation for UHNW sense of style, aesthetics and luxury and proven success in this space progressing projects from a blank slate to the final product as initially visualized.

RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Oversight of development projects from beginning to end in order to execute the Founder's vision and bring it to life;
  • Set the 12- 24 month look ahead for all development projects, mapping out the quarterly and annual financial and operational goals to ensure projects are performing at optimized levels, managing the team to successful completion
  • Onboard a strong architect to bring visuals to life for sign-off and alignment of all phases of the project(s)
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly metric based update reports, with supporting visuals where required for internal stakeholders and contractors accordingly 
  • Establish and implement overall financial and administrative procedures; controlling and overseeing any potential risks and monitoring budget feasibility
  • Source, Screen and Engage internal and external stakeholders and service providers, building and maintaining strong relationships under the company name while ensuring all contracts obtain the most favorable terms
  • Engage strategic stakeholders and harbor relationships in order to execute on approval requirements at various levels of government and with multiple authorities having jurisdiction
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, environmental standards, safety regulations, and building codes; building codes - regulatory, ensuring best practices
  • Keep current with the specific political, regulatory, and market trends to keep the business informed of potential changes within the development industry
  • Champion green and eco-friendly off-grid power systems and telecom systems;
  • Select, recommend and install prefabricated cabins and houses and collaborate with vendors to plan
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress and quality standards on a regular basis and as needed to ensure a successful result;
  •  Lead the land development team in identifying and executing on additional real estate development opportunities
REQUIREMENTS 
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • +15 years experience with construction and construction management with progressive growth
  • +10 years experience of full life cycle development management experience with solid references that can attest to your outstanding ability of project management and completion
  • +10 years leadership managing small to mid-size construction teams
  • +5 years experience supporting a high profile and UHNWI/HNWI as a owners rep or similar position, reporting into the principal
  • +5 years experience managing complex land development, ideally in remote locations working directly with planners and architects
  • +5  years experience managing and developing residential projects
  • Strong business and financial  acumen with the proven ability to develop and manage budgets, forecasts and models to the CEO or Board
  • Proven experience in Canadian building and development, with full understanding of Code (national/regional and municipal as required);
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry best practices, construction processes, and legal regulations.
  • Experience identifying and absorbing new development projects into the portfolio with clear returns on investment
  • Off-grid and/or island/resort construction development or project management experience;
  • Strong experience and knowledge of planning and implementation of off-grid telecommunication systems and experience with green power systems;
  • Experience with prefabricated homes selection, installation, and maintenance;
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute on plans to achieve business goals
  • Organized and meticulous - Capable of capturing the details without missing the big picture
  • Self-starter - Unafraid of tackling a problem without explicit, step-by-step direction and motivated to drive to a solution
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft O365, G Suite, MAC, et al., and implementing technology to make the team more efficient and effective
  • Highly adaptable; brings stability, structure, and profitability to a dynamic environment
  • Emotionally grounded: strong EQ (emotional intelligence) and emotional control; knows how to manage varying personalities and environments; hustle mentality with strong endurance but is self-managing with their time
  • Ability to travel as needed for various projects
  •  Professional certificates or licenses are an asset
COMPENSATION 
An aggressive base salary will be provided in this position, with an additional lucrative bonus plan based on performance. Full medical benefits are provided as part of this role. Options/equity will be provided to suitable candidates after completion of the first 90 days. This role also provides the opportunity for advancement in role, function and pay.
