Position Summary:
As a member of our External Affairs Department, the Outreach Specialist will operate out of our ParkTree Community Health Center. This person will be instrumental in cultivating partnerships with community stakeholders, providing visibility for UHP, and collaborating with all levels of staff to provide communications materials, special events, and outreach to the communities that we serve.
 
This position requires a high degree of fieldwork and travel. Incumbents must possess an extremely flexible schedule as many of the events and meetings include evenings and Saturdays and/or Sundays. The ideal incumbent comes with a tried-and-true passion for community development in the Bronx.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Communications, Health Education, Liberal Arts, Public Health or a related field of study.
  • 2-5 years of direct experience with community outreach or communications in a health care setting.
  • Knowledge in the coordination of special events such as health fairs.
  • Comfortability with attending community board meetings and speaking in front of large groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and multi-task in a deadline-heavy department.
  • Team-player who thrives in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills, including ability to draft and create professional flyers.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English 

Key Duties:
  • Promotes the interests of Urban Health Plan with community leaders, stakeholders, and elected officials.
  • Collaborates with community organizations, businesses, and schools to promote the work of UHP and advocate for our patients.
  • Develops and implements outreach activities including health fairs, education workshops, and presentations.
  • Attends community board meetings.
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes UHP signature events (including recurring large-scale annual events in the community).
  • Collaborates with designated Site Director to promote the services as designated Federally Qualified Health Center(s).
  • Collaborates closely with other administrative departments in the organization (including Nutrition, Health Education, and operations).

Work Environment Type, Location, and Schedule:

Onsite Bronx, NY, Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm. However, there will be weekends and after hours events as needed. 


Starting Compensation: 

 $50,000 annually; Maximum: $51,560 annually
