Position Summary:
The Specialty Referrals Specialist I is a position that specializes in patient information management for Urban Health Plan. Candidates must be familiar with medical terminology and processes related to insurance verification.
This position is based out of the Bronx with a hybrid model and requires a full-time commitment from Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Candidate will train onsite then transition hybrid, working three days onsite and two days from home. The initial first few months of training are fully onsite.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma required
- 1 year of related experience in health care field with understanding of medical terminology and coding required.
- Comfortability working in an environment with high volume of calls.
- Bilingual Spanish/English required.
- Certified in ICD-10 Coding, a plus.
- Microsoft Office Proficient
Key Duties:
- Inputs high volume of patient information and ancillary referrals for appointments via phone and fax.
- Reviews patient information for type of specialty, referral reason, ICD-10 diagnosis, medications, etc.
- Seeks prior authorization from patient insurance carriers.
- Responds in a timely manner to patient and departmental requests for information.
- Ensures ongoing compliance with confidentiality standards.
- Contacts external specialists and makes appointments for the patient if patient has not obtained one prior to completion of UHP specialty visit.
- Seeks reports for procedures performed outside of UHP that have been generated by the Specialty Department and processed by the associate prior to patients upcoming follow up appointment with UHP Specialty Department.
Compensation: $19.50/hour
