Position Summary:
The Referrals Specialist I is a position that specializes in patient information management for Urban Health Plan. Candidates must be familiar with medical terminology and processes related to insurance verification.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma required.
- 1-2 year of related experience in health care field with understanding of medical terminology and coding required.
- Comfortability working in an environment with high volume of calls.
- Bilingual Spanish/English required.
- Certified in ICD-10 Coding, a plus.
- Microsoft Office Proficient.
Key Duties:
- Inputs high volume of patient information and ancillary referrals for appointments via phone and fax.
- Reviews patient information for type of specialty, referral reason, ICD-10 diagnosis, medications, etc.
- Seeks prior authorization from patient insurance carriers.
- Responds in a timely manner to patient requests for information.
- Ensures ongoing compliance with confidentiality standards.
- Contacts external specialists and makes appointments for the patient.
Starting Compensation: Minimum $18.75 per hour; Maximum $18.75 per hour

Work Environment Type, Location, and Schedule:
Applicants must be comfortable working hybrid, based out of The Bronx and have availability to commit to a schedule of 40 hours per week, working Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with some Saturday shifts as needed. Candidates must be open and available to working hybrid, working two days onsite and three days from home.
