Position Summary:
The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor will join our Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Department and serve as a source of support for our mothers. The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is a paraprofessional who offer breastfeeding support and education to WIC participants. They provide accurate breastfeeding information to help promote breastfeeding in the community. 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is required. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Outlook.
  • Certifications in breastfeeding a plus, but not required.

Key Duties:
  • Provides basic breastfeeding education and support to assigned WIC prenatal or breastfeeding participants.
  • Documents the contacts in productivity record and submits the productivity record weekly to supervisor.
  • Completes all assigned breastfeeding trainings.
  • Follows the Peer Counselor contact frequency guidance.
  • Receives a caseload of WIC mothers and makes routine periodic contacts with all mothers assigned.

Starting Compensation: Minimum $17.25 per hour, Maximum $17.25 per hour

Work Environment Type, Location, and Schedule:
Corona-Queens, Hybrid, Tuesday 9:00 am- 5:00 pm, Thursday 8:00 am- 3:00 pm, Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
