As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll be responsible for the mechanical design and development of advanced power systems and magnetic assemblies. You'll collaborate across engineering disciplines to bring complex designs from concept through production—ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability every step of the way.
This is a hands-on role, located near Clifton Park, NY, for an experienced engineer who thrives on solving challenging problems and seeing their designs come to life in real-world applications.
Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Engineerwill include:
Lead mechanical design efforts for military-grade power transformers, magnetic assemblies, and related systems.
Perform design and analysis for electro-mechanical layouts, including high and low-voltage electronic equipment.
Utilize SOLIDWORKS for 3D modeling and apply FEA and CFD simulations to validate thermal and structural integrity.
Conduct and participate in design reviews, quality assurance evaluations, and testing activities.
Develop cooling systems using liquid, natural convection, and forced convection techniques.
Create detailed drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and test procedures supporting manufacturing and validation.
Design custom fixtures for production and qualification testing.
Plan and coordinate environmental and qualification testing for new designs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, manufacturing, and product management) to meet project goals.
Drive continuous improvement through design optimization and cost reduction initiatives.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
5+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Strong background in structural frame design, electronics packaging, thermal and structural analysis, and drafting.
Proficiency with SOLIDWORKS or equivalent 3D modeling software.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and work in both office and manufacturing settings.
Preferred Qualifications of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
In-depth knowledge of mechanical design principles and engineering theory.
Experience with thermal and structural FEA, enclosure design, and electronic assembly integration.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Familiarity with electrical theory and packaging of electrical or magnetic components.
Understanding of thermodynamics and cooling methodologies.
Background in manufacturing operations, production planning, or high-reliability product development.
Experience with transformers, inductors, or MIL-SPEC products for defense or aerospace applications.
Proven ability to write clear technical reports, procedures, and documentation.
Pay for this position is commensurate with experience and education, ranging roughly from $80,000 - $120,000.
