Our client, a dynamic and rapidly growing private equity real estate investment firm with a national footprint is seeking a talented Associate Counsel to join its in-house legal team at its Albany, NY area headquarters. The firm specializes in self-storage and other alternative real estate asset classes, with a multi-billion-dollar portfolio spanning the United States, Canada, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated environmental attorney to play a key role in the acquisition, financing, and operation of commercial real estate while working alongside a highly collaborative and respected leadership team.
Responsibilities of the Associate Counselwill include:
Advise on federal, state, and local environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
Oversee environmental due diligence for real estate acquisitions and financings.
Review and interpret environmental reports (e.g., Phase I/II ESAs), property condition reports, title, and survey documents.
Work with outside counsel and consultants to structure, negotiate, and close commercial real estate transactions.
Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments related to environmental law.
Prepare, draft, and review contracts, permits, regulatory filings, and other legal documents.
Conduct legal research and provide clear, actionable guidance on environmental and compliance matters.
Support general corporate and operational legal needs, including policies, agreements, and litigation matters as assigned.
Requisitos
Qualifications of the Associate Counsel:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.
Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state, with eligibility to practice in New York.
3–5 years of experience practicing environmental law, ideally with exposure to real estate transactions and land use.
In-depth knowledge of environmental regulatory frameworks at the federal, state, and local levels.
Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills with sharp attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Collaborative and solutions-oriented with a proven ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Pay for this position is commensurate with experience and education, ranging roughly from $120,000 - $140,000.
