Job Description

Our Assistant Controller will oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department and will report directly to the VP of Finance. This person will have the ability to work well individually and in teams with a focus on building relationships internally and externally. They should also be detail-oriented and be able to meet deadlines. Duties include ensuring the accuracy and consistency of data for accounts payable, accounts receivable and the general ledger, while directing the preparation and timely delivery of financial reports. The position calls for directing month-end closings, ensuring that accounts are properly reconciled while highlighting inconsistencies or unusual transactions. It may also involve creating reports as directed by company leadership and or as requested for governmental agencies.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Manage and direct work for part-time administrative assistant.
  • Under the direction of the VP of Finance, help enforce compliance of accounting rules and standards of the organization.
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, fiscal closing process, Balance Sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and payroll reconciliation.
  • Manage the fixed asset system to ensure proper accounting for capital expenditures and depreciation
  • Assist VP of Finance with the timely production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ensure that internal controls and processes are in line with best practices, review these periodically, and identify/analyze/research new processes and technologies that should be deployed
  • Assists VP of Finance with development of the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
  • Perform financial analysis as directed by VP of Finance.
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance and CFO as needed.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.


Job Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP standards
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Audit experience preferred but not required.
  • ERP Implementation experience preferred but not required.
 
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
  • Five years or more of related experience required.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
