Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain accurate design layouts, solid models and bills of material required for the manufacture and assembly of equipment in adherence with the project specifications, schedule and budget.
  • Prepare detail drawings for all manufactured components using AutoCAD and Solid Works software that utilize proper dimensioning and tolerancing practices.
  • Complete designs based on commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures pertaining to the mechanical engineering discipline as well as for economical manufacturing.
  • Perform engineering calculations to ensure performance requirements are met.
  • Provide leadership and technical assistance to lower level associates in the Mechanical Engineering Department. - Provide innovative alternatives to existing designs that offer cost reduction and/or product improvement.
  • Interface with the Purchasing Department and suppliers to resolve any issues that may arise with respect to commercial components specified on bills of material.
  • Address manufacturing questions from vendors with respect to drawings or bill of materials.
  • Interface with the Controls Department to answer any questions and to inform them of any revisions.
  • Provide support to the Shop as necessary during the debugging and testing of equipment.
  • Interface with customers on a national and international basis in the absence or at the request of the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
  • Generate renderings and graphics from solid models to use in sales presentations and manuals.
  • Travel to attend project meetings or perform start-up and commissioning (infrequent, but possible).

Job Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Project Management software; Microsoft Office Suite XP, and Solid Works. Qualified candidates should have a ASME / ASMET with a minimum of 7 years of experience with a machine builder, mill equipment manufacturer, or system integrator in a fast paced environment. Experience with steel automation systems and applications a plus.
