Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Location: Lake Mary, FL
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
W-2 only (must be US Citizen or GC) 

About the Role
Alphanumeric is hiring an Electrical Engineer to work with our client, Mitsubishi Power, a global leader in environmentally friendly and sustainable energy solutions. This position focuses on designing and managing the electrical power distribution networks for Gas Turbine projects, primarily in low-voltage systems (600VAC and below), including MCCs, panelboards, LV transformers, DC systems, and batteries.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, hands-on design experience, and proficiency with advanced software tools like SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) and SmartPlant 3D (S3D).

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Documentation
  • Design single-line diagrams, electrical load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and termination schedules.
  • Create power system plans, lighting layouts, electrical room configurations, and hazardous area classifications using SmartPlant 3D (S3D).
  • Perform calculations for equipment sizing (breakers, overload devices, etc.), cables, conduits, spacing, and illumination levels while maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Develop purchase specifications for electrical packages and select suitable vendors.
Compliance & Code Interpretation
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes, including NEC/NFPA 70, CEC, and IEC standards.
  • Investigate and interpret jurisdictional requirements for electrical installations.
Project Management
  • Develop schedules, coordinate, and manage projects of varying complexity with minimal supervision.
  • Interface with vendors to ensure technical and scheduling requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with customers, vendors, and field personnel to address technical inquiries and provide project updates.
Software Utilization
  • Use SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) to design electrical power distribution networks, including single-line diagrams, schematics, and schedules.
  • Utilize SmartPlant 3D (S3D) or equivalent software for 3D modeling of electrical tray and conduit designs.
  • Employ lighting calculation software (e.g., DIALux, Visual) to meet code requirements for illumination levels.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers and interns, providing technical guidance and professional development support.
  • Contribute to developing standards, policies, and procedures for the electrical team to enhance efficiency and consistency.
Continuous Improvement
  • Simplify designs to improve manufacturability and reduce costs without compromising quality.
  • Implement corrective actions to reduce nonconformance and enhance overall quality.

 
Requisitos

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical experience in industrial facility power distribution design (up to 600VAC and 220VDC); 7+ years preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant 3D (S3D), and related tools; experience with comparable software like Revit 3D is considered.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and database-driven tools.
  • Experience with lighting calculation software (DIALux, Visual) for code-compliant analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70 and other applicable codes and standards (IEC, ANSI, CSA, etc.).
Additional Skills
  • Ability to work independently and within tight deadlines while managing multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Inclination toward computer programming languages is highly encouraged.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel up to 5% as needed for project execution and support.
