Detalles:

The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor (Queens) provides alcohol and substance use disorder counseling services in a residential treatment setting. The SUD Counselor provides comprehensive assessment services to clients who may have a substance use disorder, by applying clinical judgment to determine appropriate treatment needs and levels of care. This includes performing diagnostic assessment, evaluation, intervention, referral, and alcoholism and/or substance use counseling in both individual and group settings. Must possess excellent customer service skills and be able to develop internal and external resources and customer relationships. 

The salary for the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor is $50,000 - $55,000/annually based on relevant experience.
 
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:                                                                                                                   
  • Develops and conducts group, individual, and family counseling on a scheduled basis to caseload clients.
  • Obtains weekly random urine samples according to established protocol.
  • Orients clients about program goals, objectives, rules and regulations, client"s obligations, client"s rights, and program operation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of group work management techniques and uses those techniques appropriately.
  • Completes appropriate service planning and clinical interventions.
  • Completes assigned reports in a timely manner in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), STARS, IMA SAAM, etc.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate documentation.
  • Demonstrates a clinical understanding of the role of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) in SUD treatment and is able to facilitate client preferences regarding MAT.
  • Provides education and information to the client about alcohol and drug use.
  • Offers case management services as needed, including but not limited to discharge planning, housing assistance, budgeting instruction, and linkage with community-based service providers and support resources.
  • Maintains and updates referral services and resources that may be useful to the resident population; makes referrals when necessary and appropriate.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) and Utilization Review (UR) activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
 
EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS:                                                                                                                                              
  • High School Diploma required (Associate/Bachelor Degree preferred)
  • Valid OASAS CASAC certification, or equivalent counseling degree, certification, and/or license *Candidates with a CASAC-T must obtain full CASAC within 12 months, post-hire*
  • Must meet the OASAS Scope of Practice requirements
  • Trained and certified in naloxone delivery to treat opioid overdose, or trained within 7 days, post-hire
  • Strong leadership, and excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work on a strong team of professionals in a culturally diverse environment
  • Ability to multitask and to work and function under pressure
